Rohit Sharma and His Wife
Ritika Sajdeh is a sports event manager. Before that, she was Yuvraj Singh’s rakhi sister as well. Rohit and Ritika met during an ad shoot and just like every other caring Indian brother, Yuvraj asked Rohit to keep a safe distance. Although Rohit was not very fond of Ritika in the beginning, things started to change.
While Ritika was taking care of Rohit’s cricket engagement, they became best buds. With time, they grew closer, started dating and it was almost 6 years. Then, Sharma Ji Ka Beta decided to take it a step further. A grand proposal at the Borivali Sports Club, Mumbai. Rohit ws down on his knees with a solitaire ring while he asked the question! She accepted immediately and Mr. Sharma shared a picture of the two with a tweet: “From best friends to soulmates, couldn’t get any better.”
Rohit Sharma and his wife, Ritika Sajdeh got engaged on June 3, 2015, while the marriage was scheduled for December 13. Mumbai’s Taj Lands Hotel was star-studded that day.
Rohit Sharma and His Career Statistics
In the beginning, you’d be surprised to know that he batted at 8 or 9th position. After joining the Swami Vivekanand International School, he met coach Lad. Rohit’s financial condition wasn’t capable enough to afford an international school. However, thanks to Dinesh Lad, Rohit received a scholarship. All his fees were paid without him having to spend anything. It was also Lad, who saw a spark in Rohit’s batting and who knew it was going to be one of the greatest observations.
Right with his Ranji debut, the cricketing fraternity knew Sharma Ji ka beta is going to be one of the greats. He potentially looked like India’s ideal number 4 since his U-19 days. However, things weren’t smooth sailing from the beginning. His lack of consistency and a tendency of quick dismissal didn’t allow him to secure a spot in the initial years. Things took a major turn in 2013. It was MS Dhoni’s remarkable decision to make Sharma open in the Champions Trophy that year.
Rohit Sharma in T20
Rohit Sharma became the first Indian to score 2 T20I centuries when smashed a staggering 118 runs off only 43 deliveries against Sri Lanka. His strike rate was off the charts, 274.41. Although, there was KL Rahul who also had 2 centuries to his name. Rohit just couldn’t let that slide. Therefore, he awakened the Hitman persona and scored his 3rd T20I hundred. He became the first Indian to do so. Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 100 in just 56 balls against England in July 2018. Although, it didn’t stop there! He bagged the fourth one against West Indies that year in November. An unbeaten 111 with a strike rate of 181.96. Thus, he became the only cricketer to score 4 T20I centuries.
As for the IPL, Rohit Sharma has a remarkable career here as well. A three-figure highest run in the bag, he has scored a staggering 5480 with 40 half-centuries to his name. Sharma is the captain of the defending champions with 5 IPL trophies. In the first year as the skipper, he gave Mumbai Indians their maiden IPL trophy. Rohit Sharma century in IPL was a one-time show, but the trophy cabinet had just started to be filled. With two consecutive trophies in 2019 & 2020, if he also wins the 2021 edition, Rohit Sharma will become the only captain to secure a hat-trick of title wins in IPL history.
Rohit Sharma in ODI
Rohit made his international debut against Ireland on 23 June 2007. Then, he used to bat at number seven and didn’t really get a chance to bat. He was occasionally dropped from the team due to his inconsistencies. Sharma had the worst performance of his entire career in 2012. He only scored 168 runs in the whole calendar year. But MS Dhoni’s gamble to make him play as an opener along with Shikhar Dhawan turned out to be a masterstroke. An unbeaten ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 is proof of that. It is considered to be the second most successful opening partner for India after Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar.
However, the Hitman’s pairing with the skipper, Virat Kohli is also remarkable as well. The duo has an average of over 65 in ODIs. Consistency, which was Rohit Sharma’s biggest drawback during the initial years, became his biggest weapon. His individual record started to skyrocket. On 13 November 2014, Rohit Sharma registered the highest score by an individual in ODI history. A 264 off 173 balls is what Sri Lanka received at Eden Gardens. He is the only individual to have three 200s to his name.
